A friend asked me the other day where I got my news. I explained that I actually check quite a few websites first to see if their headlines and top stories are along the same lines - what do CNN and the NY Times choose to highlight vs the BBC - so I can get a general idea of the news of the day. Then I dig into the stories that seem to be accurately reported across a wide number of the sources.
Once I've stressed myself out with reality, I go back and read some of the human interest or life hacking articles. Check out the links below for a pretty good representation of some mainstream sources. Bluesky, Reddit, various blogs, etc., are sources for alternative media - closer to the ground and local issues.
For government-focused news:
https://www.politico.com/ (they restrict some of their articles but it's good to see the titles)
https://thehill.com/ (this is my favorite)
Traditional:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/ (more conservative than NYTimes)
Wider audience that shows more international news than the others:
Good neutral (though some think they skew liberal)
Wider variety of "news"
Other
The Daily Show (a comedy show that spoon feeds the audience some actual news)
Last Week Tonight w/John Oliver (this is another comedy/news program but they do exhaustive research on the topic of the week - it's on HBO but you can find it on YouTube as well)
