Just as patriotism doesn’t belong to one party or another, neither does free speech. You may find someone’s viewpoint to be abhorrent, counter to everything you believe in, and are disgusted that they have a public platform from which to influence thousands of others. I’m sorry to tell you, they probably feel the same about you.

It is imperative that you avoid justifying the condemnation of any speech based on your personal values (with the exception of speech that incites violence, etc.). Why? Freedom of Speech is the foundation of so many liberties we hold dear in this country. We must maintain this foundation of our democratic society in order to prevent political and values-based retribution.

Now, take a deep breath. Organize your thoughts and organize your community. Work on messaging your beliefs persuasively, not with condemnation in mind.
