ELECTED OFFICIALS:
What do we want?
The question that is often asked of activists critical of elected officials is "What else do you want them to do?"
Feel free to send in other suggestions.

-
Show up to all events or send representatives – not just events you think will be uncomplicated/not controversial.
-
Actually march with protesters – don’t just speak at the events before the march.
-
Promote grassroots efforts to train people to run for office.
-
Form “running for office” mentorship program or promote similar programs if they already exist.
-
Have staff pass out cards w/contact info and instructions on what info to share when constituents leave comments on your voice mail or email. What are key points you need to hear from a constituent when they leave a comment?
-
Start a way to chat with constituents more often.
-
Do town hall presentation with electeds from other states – show shared concerns/solidarity with other constituencies – have people pre-submit questions.
-
Elevate local activists – have them speak at town halls or virtual Q&As.
-
Same with local media – not all about national media.
-
Coordinate with local activists to connect with national and have them show up to DC events.
-
Engage with federal employees from CO who work in DC need support.
-
Create rally saying or logo to brand and use as shorthand for constituents.
-
Represent everyone - make sure you don’t neglect the other side and instead try to actively engage them.
-
Keep putting forward proposed legislation, “flood the zone” and prime the pump for the next administration so we’re ready to go.
